Should I bring my x-rays or scans with me?

Yes please do. Its also helpful to also bring  other medical details such as the medication your taking, dates of previous medical events such as surgery or accidents. You are also welcome to bring your partner if needed.

How many treatments will I need and how often?

This depends on the problem and its severity.  Your physiotherapist will discuss and agree a clear treatment plan with you. This may include information regarding the  number of treatments you may need.

In some cases, particularly when the pain is strong, it is more effective to see you again within a few days. Generally treatments are spaced roughly four to seven days apart. although as your symtoms begin to improve they may be spaced more widely. Your rate of recovery will also depend upon several other factors including your age, general health, sensitivity to treatment and general activity level. Everyone is individual and responds slightly differently.

What should I wear for the first appointment?

Please arrive wearing something comfortable. Some people bring  shorts. Others if its neck pain wear a loose top or vest. Please don’t wear anything too “special” as the oils used can stain your clothes. We have towels and covers if required. We employ both male and female practitioners.  Its always your choice, please specify and we will be more than happy to accommodate you.

A recent audit of physiotherapy treatments showed that over 97% of our patients commented positively with regard to their pain scores after two or three treatments.

Does treatment hurt?

Treatment is not inherently painful. Some discomfort is likely to be experienced when an injury is inflamed and being treated. Even with gentle techniques. Your therapist will be sensitive to your symptoms and your sensitivity levels. They will discuss the best treatment options with you before you start on an agreed programme.  Alternative options will always be found if you find a particular treatment too uncomfortable.

We work together so you receive the best treatments

Practitioners will work together  if your problem is complex. We will put our heads together and ask why? There is almost always a solution. We have always worked this way because we know in general two heads are better than one!

Registered Osteopathy

Osteopathy is a medically recognised  system of diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of medical conditions  for all ages. It works with the mechanical structure and day to day function of our bodies  and is based on the principle that the well-being of an individual depends on the skeleton, muscles, ligaments and connective tissues functioning smoothly together without stress, stiffness and pain.

Osteopathy works well for many spinal, muscle and joint conditions. For people in constant pain or  who have just put their back into spasm yesterday. Osteopathy improves complex ongoing spinal problems such as “arthritic” issues.  Or have been told by their specialist that they have disc wear in-part due to “age” previous injury or worn discs. Patients  are very often surprised by just how quickly things change and how effectively Osteopathy has changed their lives. Pain relief  after  a session or three of Osteopathy can be revitalising and can well improve pain that has been around for years.

Traditional Acupuncture

Hatfield Acupuncture Practice is run by Helen Taylor Weekes, Co-Director of the practice and Senior Acupuncturist with over 30 years of practical and teaching experience. Helen works alongside and with our practitioners. Helen practices Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).

We specialises in using particularly gentle traditional Acupuncture techniques. Modern ideas and traditional values are an important part of our Hatfield Acupuncture treatments. Traditional Acupuncture is an effective  system of medicine that’s been around for thousands of years. We apply a modern twist.  Acupuncture is great for pain relief, sciatica, arthritis, back pain, fertility/infertility problems for men and women.
