Reflexology

Induce a state of calm

Reflexology

Reflexology has many health benefits. While many people think that Reflexology is just another word for foot massage, it is much more than that. Beyond the deeply relaxing feel-good effects, Reflexology goes deeper than the skin and muscles by stimulating Acupuncture meridians, inducing a healing response in corresponding nerves, organs and areas of the body. Reflexology works by applying pressure to specific reflex points on the foot and sometimes work on the hands or ears to trigger relaxation. The healing response is achieved by stimulating nerve pathways that help the body increase its energy levels. Reflexology stimulates the central nervous system, prevents migraines, clears urinary tract infections, sleep disorders and forms of depression. Reflexologists

Reflexology a Natural Healing Therapy

Reflexology is said to have originated in China some 5000 years ago. Then pressure therapy was used to correct energy fields in the body. It was not until around 1913 that the treatment was introduced to the west by an American ear, nose and throat consultant, Dr William Fitzgerald. In the feet, there are reflexology areas corresponding to all the body parts. These areas are arranged in such a way as to form a map of the body in the feet. The right foot corresponds to the right side of the body and the left foot to the left side of the body. Reflexology treatment at the Hatfield Practice aims to treat the whole body and treat the body as a whole. Reflexology is a safe and natural therapy that allows symptoms to be treated and their causes.

Reflexology – Flow Freely Again

It is considered that illness occurs when ‘energy channels’ ( or nerve pathways) in the body are blocked or under stress or tension, causing stress and loss of healthy function to one area or another. The Reflexology Massage used in Hatfield is aimed at easing these blocks, allowing energy to flow freely again and so to heal the damage. Reflexology does not claim to be a “cure-all” but numerous different disorders seem to be responding well to this natural therapy. Problems such things as migraine, sinus problems, hormonal imbalances, breathing difficulties, digestive problems, circulatory problems, back problems, tension and stress.

What can you expect?

When first visiting a  Reflexologist at The Hatfield Practice, a detailed medical history will be taken. You will then be seated or lay down and asked to remove shoes and socks. Your Reflexology practitioner will initially examine the feet before commencing with the precise massage movement. In a simple way, Reflexology s a type of involved Acupressure and massage. Reflexology requires the application of a firm pressure using the side and end of the thumb. In some instances, the fingers may also be employed.

Sensitive Feet?

All areas on both feet will be massaged. Areas corresponding to parts of the body which are out of balance will feel uncomfortable or tender when massaged and the degree of tenderness will indicate the degree of imbalance. The sensitivity of the feet varies from person to person and the trained practitioner will understand the correct pressure to apply and how to interpret the tenderness felt. The message should not be uncomfortable, even to the most sensitive feet. We will do our utmost to make sure you are relaxed and comfortable.

Your Feet Should Feel Warm

The full treatment at The Hatfield Practice lasts around an hour and at the end of the session, the feet should feel warm and the patient relaxed. The number of treatment sessions required will vary depending on the condition being treated. This will be discussed fully with you with timescale and outcome explained.

Following treatment at The Hatfield Practice, it is sometimes possible that the eliminating systems of the body become more active in order to rid the body of unwanted toxic matter. For example, treatment of a congested sinus may result in a cold and constipation treatment can cause increased bowel movements. However, as the treatment is correctly applied, these reactions should be a good sign and considered a positive reaction. We will make you a nice cup of tea if wanted after your treatment.
